Philipp Nold, who grew up playing football at SC Opel Rüsselsheim in Mainhessen, also experienced the quality of competition in the Gauliga Südwest at a young age . After the end of the Second World War, the defensive player, who was mainly used as a defender and runner, joined the black and blue team from FSV Frankfurt in what was then the first-class Oberliga Süd. The top performers of the "Bernemer" at this time were players such as former international goalkeeper Willibald Kreß , defenders Otto Dehm and Wilhelm Lautz , center runner Heinrich Dietsch , midfielder Heinrich Schuchardt and, from 1947, the outstanding offensive player Richard Herrmann.

In the two rounds of 1949/50 and 1950/51 , with 5th place, the entry into the finals of the German soccer championship was missed. With 24: 6 points, the Bornheimer Hang team laid the foundation for a good performance in the home games in 1949/50. The 15 home games were played without defeat, with nine wins and six draws, including a 2-0 home win against champions SpVgg Fürth. A field reference by Richard Herrmann, who cannot be replaced, in the second half of the season was one of the deciding factors in not making it into the final round. Together with Schweinfurt 05, Nold's team (28-0) only conceded 38 goals and thus had the best defense in the south alongside champions Fürth (39 goals against) and runner-up VfB Stuttgart (39 goals against). In the following year, 1950/51, Nold completed all 34 league games and scored two goals. Now two final defeats on April 28 and May 1, 1951 against VfR Mannheim and BC Augsburg spoiled the finals again. With 43:25 points the FSV finished fifth, Fürth reached the final with 45:23 points. This season the blue-blacks were far more dangerous with 71 goals than in the previous year (45 goals), but the defense also allowed significantly more goals with 52 goals.

The veteran experienced the last clearly positive round in 1954/55 , when the FSV reached 6th place with 33:27 points and local rival Eintracht Frankfurt placed 4th with 36:24 points, still operating within reach. Nold played his last league game on March 30, 1958, nine weeks before his 39th birthday. The district club from Bornheim lost the away game at BC Augsburg with 0-2 goals and Nold ended his 20-year league career after the round.

He kept his place of residence in Rüsselsheim during his entire activity at FSV Frankfurt.
