Philipp Wetzel began his career as an ice hockey player in the youth team of SC Bern , for whose professional team he made his debut in the National League A in the 2002/03 season and became Swiss champion for the first time in 2004 . After a total of three years in the junior division, the attacker left Bern during the 2004/05 season and signed with the second division club SC Langenthal , for whom he was on the ice for the following year and a half.

Before the 2007/08 season, the left shooter was committed by their league rivals EHC Biel , with whom he became NLB champion and rose to the National League A. In this, the Swiss scored a total of three points, including one goal, in 25 games in the 2008/09 season .

Wetzel had to deal with an injury in the 2008/09 season. He dislocated his left shoulder, had an operation and was out until the next season. In October 2009, Wetzel returned to the ice. His coach, Kent Ruhnke , rarely used him at the beginning, but he gave him more ice age over the course of the season.

In 2018, after ten seasons in the dress of EHC Biel, Wetzel switched to HC La Chaux-de-Fonds after the decision in Biel not to extend his expiring contract.

International

For Switzerland , Wetzel took part in the U18 Junior World Championship in 2003 , in which he and his team finished ninth, making them relegated to Division I.
