Philippa Mareri (* 1200 in Petrella Salto in Abruzzo , Italy ; † February 16, 1236 in Borgo San Pietro, now part of Petrella Salto) was an abbess and founder of the monastery.

Life

Philippa Mareri got to know Saint Francis of Assisi around 1225 , who placed Roger of Todi as her soul guide. Three years later, with the help of her brother, she founded a Poor Clare monastery in the small village of Borgo San Pietro , of which she became the first abbess . She died when she was about 36 years old. Immediately after her death, her devotion spread. Only in 1806 was the cult approved by the church . The festival for Philippa Mareri was mentioned as early as 1247 by Pope Innocent IV .
