Philippe Geluck (born May 7, 1954 in Brussels ) is a Belgian artist .

life and career

In 1969, Geluck and his brother Jean-Christophe drew a fake newspaper that was displayed in the bathroom of their house. A window cleaner who worked in the house saw an artistic talent in Geluck's drawings and told his friend Bob de Groot , the publisher of the satirical newspaper L'Œuf, about it . Geluck was able to publish his first works in this newspaper. In 1972 he enrolled at a drama school and has since played in a wide variety of plays. On December 10, 1976, while shooting a short film, he met his future wife Dany, with whom he has a son and a daughter.

From 1978 he started with the Belgian Broadcasting Corporation (RTBF) with comedy programs. On March 22nd, the comic figure “Le Chat”, the “cat”, developed to order, appeared for the first time in the Belgian daily newspaper “Le Soir”. "Le Chat" made him known. The figure was very well received throughout the French-speaking world.

In parallel to his career as a comic artist, Geluck continued to work for radio, radio and television. In 1991 he got the award for the funniest show in Montreux . On October 11, 2008, the "Place du Chat" (Cat Square) was named after his character in Hotton . Geluck became an honorary citizen of the city. In Herseaux a public elementary school was named after him. In 2009 he was appointed Commander of the Order of the Crown by King Albert II of Belgium .
