Thöml-Schlössl in Hall in Tirol

The Thöml-Schlössl is located in the town of Hall in Tirol in the Innsbruck-Land district of Tirol (Mitterweg 8). The Thöml-Schlössl is named after Thomas Bliem, who owned the Schlössl in 1780 (then known as the Bruggerhof ).

History of the castle

The castle was acquired around 1710 by Maria Eleonore Herberstein , the superior of the Haller Damenstift , and redesigned for the Jesuits .

The Jesuits founded a Jesuit settlement in Hall in 1569 at the instigation of Archduke Ferdinand of Tyrol and his sisters Magdalena and Helena. Three of the daughters of Emperor Ferdinand I founded a women's monastery in Hall in 1567 and withdrew there. The Jesuits were the confessors here . In addition, in 1573 a college was established for the order, which maintained the branch even after the death of the archduchesses (1590), although the superior general Franz Borja had only limited the existence to the life of the founder Magdalena. At the beginning of the 17th century the Jesuits owned the Madleinhof residence in Thurn , using this farm as a summer residence. Since Thurn was too far away from Hall, they tried to find a new place to live, which they found in Thöml-Schlössl. After the Jesuit order was abolished in 1773, the residence passed to the Bliem family, who set up an inn there and who still own the property today.

Thöml-Schlössl today

The building is on the eastern edge of Hall. There is a fresco of a Jesuit priest above the entrance gate , the entrance is emphasized by a cross. A wooden coffered ceiling has been preserved in the former refectory on the ground floor . The portal to the dining room is flanked by twisted columns and has an inscription in the sopra portico that recalls the renovations by Eleonore von Herberstein in 1710 with a six-fold chronogram . Inside the house there is also a double staircase with openwork railing that leads to the upper floor. Small rooms are lined up like cells in two parallel corridors. The house still has a marble fireplace, old furniture and pictures. Until 1936 the old slug panes were still in the windows of the house , which then had to give way to an enlarged window. The current owner is Ernst Karl Bliem.

Externally, the building has been heavily renovated several times. The former site of the residence was currently being built over by Neue Heimat with residential buildings designed by the architects Henke & Schreieck.
