The editor-in-chief is the philosopher, journalist and author Svenja Flaßpöhler , the senior editor is the literary and social scientist Nils Markwardt. Other responsible editors are Dominik Erhard and Theresa Schouwink as well as the journalist and cultural scientist Jutta Person (books), the philosopher and literary critic Marianna Lieder (classics) and the philosopher and journalist Catherine Newmark (editor-in-chief of the special editions). The magazine was founded by Fabrice Gerschel, editor of the French monthly magazine " Philosophie Magazine ". The German partner magazine has its own editorial office based in Berlin and is published by Philomagazin Verlag, but is in contact with its French sister magazine, which is headed by Alexandre Lacroix . The first edition of November 16, 2011 with the topic “Why do we have children?” Was 100,000 copies and was also distributed in Switzerland and Austria. Since then it has been published every two months.

The aim of the magazine is to convey and discuss philosophical thinking outside of university specialist circles. In addition to interviews, portraits and reports, the magazine presents a central philosophical thinker in each issue. According to its own statements, the magazine is not committed to any worldview, ideology, religion, political direction or party.
