Phimeanakas
The Phimeanakas Temple ( Khmer : ប្រាសាទភិមានអាកាស ) is a pyramid-shaped temple in the Angkor Thoms Royal Palace in Cambodia and thus part of the Angkor UNESCO World Heritage Site . It was probably built by Suryavarman I in the 11th century . The Phimeanakas is twelve meters high and has a base of 36 by 28 meters. The basic pyramid consists of laterite rock , the superstructures were made of sandstone .
The Chinese envoy Zhou Daguan reported that the temple (in his time, i.e. in 1296/7) was made of gold, so it is assumed that at least the dome was covered with gold.
