Phocion Francescakis

Phocion Francescakis, Φωκίων Φραντζεσκάκης - Phōkiōn Phrantzeskakēs, (born June 10, 1910 in Chania ; † June 14, 1992 in Paris ) was a Greco-French legal scholar in the field of private international law.

Life

Francescakis was born in Chania in 1910 and spent his school days in Greece. He studied law in France. With the beginning of the Second World War in 1939 he volunteered for the French army. In 1940 he was taken prisoner by Germany. Released from captivity in 1945, he first became an assistant at the Institute for International Private Law in Paris. From 1948 he was chargé de recherches, from 1958 maître de recherches and finally director de recherche from 1963 at the Center national de la recherche scientifique . He was editor-in-chief of Paul Lagarde 's Revue critique de droit international privé and a member of the Academy of Athens . He died in Paris in 1992.
