The Senegalese date palm ( Phoenix reclinata ) is a type of palm that is found primarily on the Comoros and Madagascar , but also in the tropical belt of Africa and South Africa .
description
The Senegalese date palm grows with multiple stems and normally grows to heights of eight meters and trunk diameters of 10 to 15 cm. Their long, narrow pinnate leaves (fronds) with large spines are striking. Although these are intended to protect against wild feeding , they are hardly effective. In general, it is reminiscent of the Canary Island date palm , but the trunks, for example, are usually bent, which has also earned it the botanical name reclinata .
The initially green fruits change color from orange to reddish brown as they ripen; they have a length of 12 to 18 mm and a diameter of 7 to 8 mm.
use
This species can withstand very high temperatures, but it is very susceptible to frost . This palm can also show an amazing regeneration through the bush-like intergrowth of the trunks . The Senegalese date palm can also be used as a houseplant .
