from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

As phosphorylases is referred to enzymes , the transfer of a pentose - or hexose -Rests of a di- or polysaccharide or a nucleoside to an orthophosphate - Ion catalyze . They are therefore special glycosyl transferases .

Phosphorylases should not be confused with phosphatases or kinases .

A classification according to enzyme number differentiates the most important member of the group, the glycogen phosphorylase , from sucrose phosphorylase , maltose phosphorylase on the one hand, and purine nucleoside phosphorylase , pyrimidine nucleoside phosphorylase , uridine phosphorylase , uridine phosphorylase and 5-methyl-5'-thioadenosine on the other.
