Photostomias is a genus of deep-sea fish from the family of the baleen dragonfish (Stomiidae). Photostomias species live in all oceans worldwide, especially in the mesopelagial , but have also been caught at depths of up to 4000 meters. They feed mainly on lantern fish (Myctophidae).

features

Species of photostomias have a black, elongated body that tapers backwards and can reach a length of 10 to 17 centimeters. The dorsal and anal fins are located far back, just before the small caudal fin. Adult fish lack pectoral fins . The pelvic fins are drawn out long. On the lower jaw wear photostomias TYPES unlike most other baleen dragon fish no Bartel . There is no floor skin between the branches of the lower jaw.
