The phpMyForum, also called pMF for short, is free software for providing an Internet forum . phpMyForum is based on the PHP scripting language and the MySQL database software . The software is under the QPL license and was developed in the years 2000–2013.

Functions

The forum has its own messaging system with e-mail notification, e-mail form, subscription function and adaptable BBCodes . The forums and categories can be nested as required and have their own search function. A forum and user-related assignment of rights is possible. Certain forums can also be made invisible to unauthorized persons.

The users have a personal and expandable profile with settings and user avatar . When registering, the email address is checked. The web forum offers administrators all common moderation functions and options for customizing the forum. The complete design of the forum can be changed using templates. The phpMyForum can only be installed using a browser.

The full list of features is on the project website.

safety

During the development of the phpMyForum, great importance was attached to security. Here are stored encrypted passwords, among other things, cookie - and Session - Authentication supported and it can IP addresses -, email - and name locks are set.

System requirements

For the pMF to run smoothly, at least PHP 4.3 and MySQL ≤ 4.0.x must be set up. In addition, the setting of magic_quotes_runtime and magic_quotes_sybase should be off. MySQL 4.1.x / 5.x support was planned for future versions.

migration

Christoph Roeder offers a multi-converter for the phpMyForum, which allows an adapted configuration file to convert data from other forums into a database structure that can be used by the phpMyForum in order to be able to migrate to the phpMyForum relatively easily. Configuration files for the multi-converter for the phpBB 2.0.x and for the WoltLab Burning Board 2.2 were available for download on the project website. Since 2006 there are no more adjustments to be able to convert from current forum software.

history

Christoph Roeder started developing the forum in 2000. It was originally a practice project to learn PHP. Another reason was that the developer did not like existing forum systems. The current versions contain virtually nothing of the code from that time. The first public release of the phpMyForum goes back to May 12th, 2002. At that time it was developed and published under the name phpForum. After a few versions, the name of the forum for version 3 changed to phpMyForum. The forum is now represented on www.forensoftware.de and does not need to fear comparison with other forum systems. In addition, an active community has formed around the PMF, which, along with Christoph Roeder, helps with questions and problems.

Since 2005, apart from security updates, the forum software has hardly developed any further until 2010. On May 20, 2016, the author announced on his homepage that all activities for the software had been suspended.
