Phrixos group
A group of Apulian vase painters from the third quarter of the 4th century BC is known as the Phrixos group . Chr. Designated.
The Phrixos group got its emergency name from the depiction of the mythological figure Phrixos on one of their vases. Here Phrixos rides a ram across the sea. Several fish are grouped around it. Because of these fish it was possible to assign other fish plates to the group . The Dareios underworld workshop , to which it is assigned, is considered to be the manufactory that produced the highest quality works of red-figure Apulian vases of the corresponding time. It is unclear whether the group consisted of several artists or just the main representative, the Phrixos painter . The name vase of the group is ascribed to this.
