Phrixus Painter (Apulia)
The Phrixos painter is an Apulian vase painter from the third quarter of the 4th century BC. Chr. Designated.
It is unclear whether the Phrixos painter was an individual artist or belonged to a larger group named after him, the Phrixos group . The name vase of the group is ascribed to him. The Phrixos painter received the emergency name from the depiction of the mythological figure Phrixos on a plate. Here Phrixos rides a ram across the sea. Several fish are grouped around it. Because of these fish it was possible to assign other fish plates to the group . The Dareios underworld workshop , to which it is assigned, is considered to be the manufactory that produced the highest quality works of red-figure Apulian vases of the corresponding time.
