Physalis fendleri is a plant type from the genus of jujubes ( Physalis ) in the family of the nightshade family (Solanaceae).
description
Physalis fendleri is a tall, perennial, herbaceous plant that is densely hairy with trichomes . There are sparsely finely branched trichomes in a star shape, but the branches can only be seen under the microscope. The leaves are triangular to ovate-lanceolate and 1 to 4 cm in size. The leaf margin is more or less strongly serrated. The crown is colored yellow and has a brown colored center. On the fruit, the calyx enlarges to a length of 2 to 3 cm, its shape is then egg-shaped.
Occurrence
The species is distributed from Colorado to Arizona and Mexico .
Systematics
Within the genus of the bladder cherries ( Physalis ), the species is classified in the section Lanceolatae of the subgenus Rydbergis .
use
Its use as food is known from the Zuñi , who call the plant "Ke'tsitokia". The fruits are boiled with a little water and used as a condiment.
