The Piñero Island ( French Île Piniero [sic!]) Is a 3 km long and 800 m wide island off the Loubet coast of Graham Land in the northern part of the Antarctic Peninsula . It is located 7 km northwest of the Pourquoi-Pas Island .
It was discovered by participants in the Fifth French Antarctic Expedition (1908–1910) under the direction of polar explorer Jean-Baptiste Charcot . Charcot named it after the Argentine MP Antonio F. Piñero (1855-1921), who was able to persuade the Argentine government under President Roque Sáenz Peña to fully support the research trip.
