Chen Pi-hsien

Chen Pi-hsien , Chinese  陳 必先  /  陈 必先 , Pinyin Chén Bìxiān , (* 1950 in Taiwan ) is a Taiwanese-German pianist .

She came to Cologne at the age of 9 , where she was accepted into the piano class of Hans-Otto Schmidt-Neuhaus. She later studied at the Hanover University of Music and Drama with Hans Leygraf. At the age of 21 she won first prize at the ARD International Music Competition in Munich . This was followed by the 1st prize at the Schönberg and Bach Competition in Rotterdam and Washington DC. She gives concerts on all major podiums in Europe, Asia and America. She is particularly interested in new music. She made CD recordings a. a. with works by Johann Sebastian Bach , Arnold Schönberg , Jean Barraqué and York Höller . From 1983 to 2004 Pi-hsien Chen was professor for piano at the Cologne University of Music . Since the summer semester 2004 she has been teaching in the same position at the Musikhochschule Freiburg .
