Picún Leufú is the capital of the Picún Leufú department of the same name in the Neuquén province in southwest Argentina . Picún Leufú is located halfway between Neuquén and San Carlos de Bariloche via the Ruta Nacional 237 . The place belongs to the municipalities of the 2nd category in the classification of municipalities in the province of Neuquén.
history
Picún Leufú is derived from the Mapudungun language of the Mapuche . Picún means north and Leufú river , the entire place name means river of the north . The place was established by Decree No. 79,488 founded on September 12, 1971.
