Pickles (dog)

Pickles (* 1962 or 1963; † 1967 in London , United Kingdom ) was a black and white mixed breed dog who made headlines around the world when he won the Jules Rimet Cup, which had disappeared in the run-up to the 1966 World Cup, while walking with his owner David Corbett found again. Someone had wrapped it in newspaper and hid it in a bush in South Norwood, south London. The cup had been publicly displayed and stolen a week earlier in Westminster Central Hall . The perpetrator or perpetrators could never be identified.

David Corbett received a finder's reward of £ 6,000 and Pickles was invited to a banquet to mark the opening of the 1966 World Cup, where he was allowed to lick the plates of the guests present. Pickles and Corbett have appeared on various British TV shows and series for months. Pickles also appeared in the film comedy The Spy with a Cold Nose ( The Spy with a Cold Nose , 1966) by Daniel Petrie on.

Pickles died in 1967 while chasing a cat while strangling himself with his collar on a fallen tree. He was buried in his master's garden.

In 2006, Pickles' story was filmed under the title Pickles: The Dog Who Won the World Cup by the English TV station ITV .
