Picromerus nigridens is a bug species from the subfamily Asopinae , which belongs to the family of stink bugs (Pentatomidae).

features

The medium-sized, brownish colored bugs are about 12 millimeters long. The pronotum tapers at the sides. The tips are colored black. The frontal wedge (tylus) is not enclosed by the cheeks. The antennae are reddish with the exception of the apical part of the third, fourth and fifth segments, which are each colored black. The scutellum has no bright calluses at the base (in contrast to Picromerus conformis ).

distribution

The species occurs in the Mediterranean area. Their distribution area extends from the Iberian Peninsula (Portugal and Spain), through southern France, Italy, Albania, Greece (including Crete), Asia Minor to the Transcaucasus .

Way of life

The bugs predatorily feed on various arthropods such as butterfly caterpillars or beetle larvae, whose sap they suck out with the help of their proboscis.

etymology

The species name nigridens is derived from Latin: niger = "black" and dens = "tooth".
