Piergiorgio Odifreddi (born July 13, 1950 in Cuneo , Piedmont ) is an Italian mathematician , logician and historian of science . He is known to the general public as an author and essayist who takes a critical look at the tension between science and religion .

Odifreddi studied in Turin and taught in Italy and the United States, where he worked in the field of predictability theory .

He dealt critically with Antonino Zichichi . Odifreddi is a committed speaker and is often compared to Richard Dawkins because of his ideas . His book Il Vangelo secondo la scienza (in German "The Gospel viewed scientifically") is a bestseller.
