Piero Giustinian , usually called Pietro Giustiniani or Pietro Giustiniano (* around 1490 in Venice ; † 1576 ), was a Venetian senator and historian.

In 1518 Piero Giustinian, son of Luigi Giustinian, is tangible as a member of the Grand Council. He went through a purely local official career, at the end of which he was a member of the Senate. He held the position of Savio agli Ordini , Maggior Savio and Esecutore alle Acque .

In 1560 his unauthorized history of the Republic of Venice appeared under the title Rerum venetarum ab urbe condita historia , which, however, met with criticism. In 1575 and 1576 a three-volume version was published, initially in Latin, which later also appeared in the vernacular, the Volgare . Although encouraged by Ramusio , Marco Foscarini later criticized that he had copied many of the mistakes of Francesco Sansovino and had mainly concentrated on his own epoch.

The 17-volume work, the last volume of which, which covers the period from 1533, was probably never published at the author's behest, was supplemented by Emmanuele Antonio Cicogna in 1830 by a translation of the surviving manuscript into Volgare.
