Pierre-Auguste-Louis Blondeau

Pierre-Auguste-Louis Blondeau (born August 15, 1784 in Paris ; † 1865 there ) was a French composer , violinist and musicologist .

Blondeau studied composition with François-Joseph Gossec and Étienne-Nicolas Méhul and violin with Pierre Baillot . In 1808 he won the Premier Grand Prix de Rome with the cantata Marie Stuart . From 1818 to 1842 he was a violinist in the orchestra of the Paris Opera .

He composed religious works, including a Te Deum in honor of Napoleon , cantatas, a buffo opera, orchestral works and chamber music. His three string quartets based on Beethoven's piano sonatas are still popular today .

In addition, Blondeau emerged as a music theorist and historian with writings on Benedetto Marcello and Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina .
