Pierre-Luc-Charles Cicéri (born August 17, 1782 in Saint-Cloud , † August 22, 1868 in Saint-Chéron ) was a French landscape and decorative painter , draftsman , lithographer , restorer and musician .

Life

Pierre-Luc-Charles Cicéri came from a Milanese merchant family who had moved to France. His father ran a business in glasses in the Palais Royal . The young Cicéri initially received a musical education, as a result of which he already played the violin perfectly at the age of fourteen.

In 1802 Cicéri began studying drawing with the architect François-Joseph Bélanger . In 1806 he developed a passion for stage decoration while working in the workshops of the Paris Opera . Promoted by his talent and artistic taste, he quickly rose to become a recognized painter and decorator of the opera by 1810. In 1818 he already held the position of “chief designer” of the institution.

At the same time, Cicéri was appointed imperial court painter in 1812 and two years later peintre du Roi et de la Cour , where he was particularly valued for his talents as a decorative painter. From 1853 Cicéri then held the post of imperial theater inspector.
