Pierre Bourdon

Pierre Bourdon (* 1946 in Paris ) was born in France to Rene Bourdon, Director General at Christian Dior . Frederic Malle describes Pierre Bourdon as one of the most innovative perfumers of his generation. His most successful creations are "Davidoff Cool Water (Man & Woman)" and "Jil Sander Sun".

Life

After studying political and economic sciences at the Paris Institute for Political Studies, also known as Sciences Po , Pierre Bourdon started his training as a perfumer at the Roure perfume school (l'Ecole de Parfumerie de Roure) in Grasse in 1971.

At the same time he was trained by the founder of modern perfumery, Edmond Roudnitska , known for his fragrance creations Diorella, Diorissimo and Femme de Rochas. Roudnitska, whom he met twice a week in Cabris, France, taught Pierre Bourdon the art of perfumery.

After five years of training in Grasse , Pierre Bourdon moved to Paris to work for the Roure perfume house. Pierre Bourdon worked for Roure for a total of 11 years, creating fragrances such as Yves Saint Laurent Kouros, Pavielle for Avon or Darling for Elida Gibbs.

Pierre Bourdon then became co-founder and chief perfumer of Takasago Europe in 1982 . His most famous works from this period are Davidoff Cool Water, Joop Homme and Jil Sander Sun.

In 1991 he left Takasago Europe to work at Quest. Well-known fragrances from these years are Nightflight (Joop), Fantasme (Lapidus), Feminite du Bois together with Chris Sheldrake (Shiseido) and Kouros Eau de Fraîcheur (Yves Saint Laurent).

After this brief period at Quest, Pierre Bourdon founded the Paris subsidiary of Fragrance Resources. During this time, fragrances such as Christian Dior Dolce Vita, Davidoff Cool Water Woman, Escada Crystal Parfum, Salvatore Ferragamo Tuscan Soul and Lacoste Challenge were created.

In 2014 the perfumer created his own personal fragrance line “Pierre Bourdon”, free of any specifications: La dame en rose, Sous les magnolias, La fin d'un été, Le grand tour, Route des épices.
