Pierre Charbonnier

Pierre Charbonnier (born August 24, 1897 in Vienne , † July 2, 1978 in Paris ) was a French painter , film architect , short film director and costume designer .

Charbonnier trained at the Paris École nationale supérieure des beaux-arts de Paris and the Académie Ranson. Since then he has worked in a wide variety of artistic fields, including as a painter and costume designer at the theater.

Since 1928, Pierre Charbonnier has directed a series of short and animated films. Its most important cinéastically phase began in 1950 with the collaboration with Robert Bresson . Charbonnier's decorations underlined the artistic asceticism aimed at by his in-house director, "which was able to congenially underline Bresson's strict visual language."
