Pierre Granier (born October 13, 1911 in Montpellier , † May 16, 1989 ibid) was a French football player .

Career

From 1930 the midfielder Granier played for SO Montpellier , which at the time was one of the strongest teams in France and had won the country's cup in 1929. In 1932 the club was one of the 20 co-founders of Division 1 , which was introduced as the nationwide first division and established professional football in France. The southern French were part of the sporting midfield in the first two years, before there was a significant deterioration in the 1934/35 season and the team was relegated at the end of the season. Granier then moved to the second division OGC Nice , who ended the 1935/36 season in the middle of the table. He personally managed to return to the first class, as he was committed in 1936 by the previous sixth Olympique Marseille .

For Marseille he played his first competitive game in November 1936 and was regularly considered from then on. In a very balanced league, Olympique was able to top the table and, with the help of Granier, also narrowly distance FC Sochaux and Racing Club Paris , with the better goal quotient being decisive compared to Sochaux. Thus he was part of the French championship team from 1937, which was also the first title of this kind for the club. In the following season 1937/38 the midfielder was only rarely called up and had to admit defeat with Marseille in the fight for a possible title defense this time to FC Sochaux.

In 1938 the player left Marseille and moved to the second division for Toulouse FC . With the beginning of the Second World War , regular game operations were discontinued in 1939, but the championship continued unofficially. Granier was able to continue playing football and returned to his former club SO Montpellier. For three years he took part in the war championships with these before he ended his career in 1942. He died in 1989 at the age of 77 in his hometown of Montpellier.
