Pierre Magnard

Pierre Magnard (born August 24, 1927 in Casablanca ) is a French philosopher and professor emeritus with a focus on the history of philosophy .

Magnard studied philosophy at the University of Paris , where among his teachers were Gaston Bachelard , Jean Beaufret , Henri Gouhier and Maurice Merleau-Ponty . After completing his degree, doctorate and a few years in higher education, Magnard became professor of philosophy at the University of Poitiers in 1978 , and since 1988 at the Sorbonne , where he is now emeritus . The main focus of Magnard's work is the history of modern philosophy, where he has dealt with thinkers such as Carolus Bovillus , Nicolaus Cusanus , Michel de Montaigne and Blaise Pascal and edited their works.

For his book Questions à l'humanisme Magnard received the “Grand prix de Philosophie” (2001) from the Académie française .
