Piers Torday

Piers Francis Torday (born April 6, 1974 in Northumberland ) is a British writer.

life and work

The older of two sons of the English writer Paul Torday (1946-2013) and a bookseller was born in Northumberland in 1974, his brother Nicholas followed in December 1976. Piers Torday attended Eton College and the University of Oxford . After attending school and university, he worked as a writer in the theater and for live comedy shows, and then wrote for television. After his father had written the novel Salmon Fishing in Yemen , Piers Torday took an "Arvon" writing course for Ted Hughes and began writing his first book, "The Last Wild" (German: "The great wilderness"), which it based on Shortlisted for Waterstone's Children's Book Prize, UKLA Award 2014, and Stockton Children's Book of the Year 2015 and Calderdale Children's Book of the Year 2014. The sequel "The Dark Wild" (German: "Uprising of the Animals") won the "Guardian Children's Fiction Prize 2014" . In October 2015 he published the third part of his trilogy with "The Wild Beyond". He completed the work “Death of an Owl” started by his father and published it in 2016. His books have been translated into various languages, such as German, Dutch, French and Italian.
