Pierse Long

Pierse Long (* 1739 in Portsmouth , New Hampshire Colony , †  April 13, 1789 ibid) was an American politician . In 1785 and 1786 he was a delegate for New Hampshire to the Continental Congress .

Career

Pierse Long attended public schools in his home country. Then he worked in trade. In the 1770s he joined the revolutionary movement. In 1775 he was a delegate to the Provincial Congress of New Hampshire . During the Revolutionary War he was a Colonel and then Brevet Brigadier General in a New Hampshire unit. In 1785 and 1786 he represented his state in the Continental Congress. From 1786 to 1789 he held the office of State Councilor . In 1788 he was a member of the congregation that ratified the United States Constitution for New Hampshire. In early 1789, Pierse Long was appointed head of the Federal Customs Service in Portsmouth Harbor. However, he could no longer take up this office for health reasons. He died on April 13 of the same year.
