Pietà in Ammerschwihr

The sculpture Pietà in the Catholic Church of St-Martin in Ammerschwihr , a French commune in the Haut-Rhin department of the Grand Est region , was created in the 18th century. In 1982 the baroque Pietà was classified as a Monument historique .

The colored and gilded wooden Pietà is 1.10 meters high. It shows Mary on her knees with the body of Jesus , whose right arm falls perpendicular to the ground. Maria is bent slightly forward, she wears a long and wide dress with many folds and a veil on her head that falls far over her back.
