Pietà in Ainay-le-Château

The Pietà in the Church of St-Étienne in Ainay-le-Château , a French commune in the Allier department of the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region , was created in the 17th century. In 1960 the Pietà was classified as a monument historique .

The 95 cm high group of sculptures made of wood shows Mary on her knees with the body of Jesus . The colored version has been renewed. Maria is portrayed with a hard and withdrawn facial expression.
