Pietà in Gannat

The Pietà in the Sainte-Croix church in Gannat , a French commune in the Allier department of the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region , was created in the 18th century. In 1985 the baroque Pietà was classified as a Monument historique .

The colored wooden sculptural group shows Mary on her knees with the body of Jesus . Maria is bent backwards, she wears a long and loose dress with many folds. The long hair of Christ falls on her dress.
