Pietà of St. Martin (Hillesheim)
The sculpture group Pietà in the Catholic parish church of St. Martin (built in 1852/53) in Hillesheim , a town in the Eifel district of Bitburg-Prüm in Rhineland-Palatinate , was created at the end of the 17th century.
The one meter wide and about 80 cm high pietà made of linden wood was taken over from the previous building of today's church, which was demolished in 1852.
Ernst Wackenroder wrote in 1928:
“Only the upper body of the crucified one lies on the lap of the Madonna, who is turned obliquely to the left; The right hand touches the ground, the upper body is strongly characterized by its position in the muscles, the body is on the whole soft and elegant. The loincloth and the cloak of the Madonna with tight, sharp folds and in opposition and opposite to the Christ body. "
