Piet van der Wolk

Piet van der Wolk (born March 18, 1892 in Rotterdam , † November 23, 1952 ) was a Dutch football player . He was a striker for Sparta Rotterdam and was used six times for the national team .

At Sparta, the young van der Wolk was one of the “four musketeers” who were the guarantors of success shortly after the turn of the century. The right winger was considered to be a very good cross and assist provider. With van der Wolk, Bok de Korver , Huug de Groot and Cas Ruffelse , the Rotterdamers were five times champion from 1909 to 1915 and won five important cup competitions. In total, van der Wolk played in the first Sparta team for 13 years.

Before his 18th birthday he was called up for the first time in the national team, which was coached by Edgar Chadwick - in those years also the Spartans' trainer. In 2009 he was the sixth youngest debutant of the Oranje Elftal . The use in Antwerp's Kiel Stadium against Belgium on March 13, 1910 remained the only one for three years. He did not return to the NVB team until March 24, 1913 - for an important match: for the first time in their seventh meeting, the Dutch were able to defeat the English amateur national team . However, van der Wolks Rotterdam team-mate De Groot scored the goals to make it 2-1 in The Hague . Even in his next two games in 1913 he remained without a hit. A six-year compulsory break due to the world war followed before van der Wolk ran aground twice in Oranje in 1919 .

Even after his active career, van der Wolk remained loyal to his home club Sparta in various functionary positions.
