Pieter Roelof Bos , also Pieter Roelf Bos (born February 19, 1847 in Groningen , † June 22, 1902 ibid) was a Dutch teacher in the subjects of Dutch and geography . He was the first to publish the Bosatlas named after him , the most important Dutch school atlas .

The father was a teacher in Groningen, and Pieter Roelof Bos first completed his teacher training at the Rijkskweekschool there. From 1866 to 1868 he worked as a teacher after another exam in Friesland, and finally in 1871 he received the diploma for a higher, secondary school type (middelbaar onderwijs). From 1872 he worked in Warffum as a teacher for his subjects Dutch and geography.

For the then new subject geography at schools, Bos wrote many maps and books. In 1877 he published the geheele aarde school atlas for the first time , which had many editions and is still used today.

In 1888 Bos became an examiner for teacher training and worked this part-time job until 1901. In 1893 he became a member of the board of the Royal Dutch Geographical Society.

Despite the importance of his atlas and his high reputation, he never received a post at a university, probably because the necessary training was missing. Ferjan Ormeling, who denies the rumor that he died as a result of a precautionary removal of the appendix, suspects Ferjan Ormeling.
