Pietro "Pierino" Bestetti (born December 1, 1898 in Pioltello , † January 3, 1936 in Milan ) was an Italian cyclist.
In 1919 Pietro Bestetti won the first edition of Tre Valli Varesini . The following year he became Italian champion in the amateur road race . As a result, he started at the Olympic Games in Antwerp that same year . He finished 21st in the road race and fifth in the team classification together with the Italian national team ( Federico Gay , Camillo Arduino and Dante Ghidani ).
After the Olympics, Bestetti turned professional . In 1923 he won the Tour du Lac Léman and in 1924 the Giro dell'Umbria . In 1925 he won the third stage of the Giro d'Italia and finished seventh overall. He finished second at Paris-Roubaix , making it the first Italian to finish on the podium in this race. In 1926 he won the tenth stage of the Giro and came in sixth overall. In total, he took part in the Giro seven times and in Milan-Sanremo nine times . He also started in six-day races : in 1927 he finished third together with Alfredo Dinale in Milan and again in Nice in 1928 , together with German Michael Damerow . In 1931 he ended his active cycling career.
1936 Pietro Bestetti died at the age of 37 years at a pneumonia . His younger brother Angelo was also an active cyclist.
