Pietro Cataldi
Pietro Antonio Cataldi (born April 15, 1548 in Bologna , † February 11, 1626 there ) was an Italian mathematician .
Cataldi taught 1569/70 at the Art Academy in Florence , mathematics at the University of Perugia and from 1572 at the Art Academy there and from 1584 in Bologna (probably also at the Art Academy).
In 1613 Pietro Cataldi published a book in which chain fractions appear for the first time (Trattato del modo brevissimo…). He also published the works of Euclid in 1620, 1625 and 1626 and published a treatise in 1603 in which he mistakenly believed that he had proven the parallel postulate .
