Pietro Guarneri

Pietro Guarneri (also Pietro Guarneri II and Pietro Guarneri da Venezia ; born April 14, 1695 in Cremona , † April 7, 1762 in Venice ) was an Italian violin maker . Sometimes the son of Giuseppe Giovanni Battista Guarneri , filius Andreae , is also referred to as Pietro da Venezia , he was the last important violin maker in the Guarneri family .

Guarneri lived in Cremona with his father Giuseppe Giovanni Battista until 1718 , with whom he fell out. He left Cremona permanently in 1718 and settled in Venice between 1722 and 1724. There he improved the working techniques known to him from his father's workshop with the work techniques used in Venice. Presumably he met the violin makers Montagnana and Tononi in Venice. In any case, Matteo Gofriller , Carlo Annibale Tononi , Francesco Gobetti , Domenico Montagnana and Sanctus Seraphin were also active in Venice at that time . Guarneri married Angiola Maria Ferrari on April 5, 1728, with whom he had ten children.

The first of the instruments that he provided with his own certificate of origin was made in Venice around 1730. They are rare and as expensive as those of his father and uncle Pietro Giovanni Guarneri from Mantua.
