Piikkiö [ ˈpiːkːiœ ] ( Swedish Pikis ) is a former municipality in southwest Finland . At the beginning of 2009 it was incorporated into the neighboring town of Kaarina .

History and location

The first written mention of Piikkiö comes from the year 1331. At that time there was probably a wooden church at the place, which was replaced in 1755 by a stone church. The ruins of Kuusisto Castle were used as building material .

There are several manors on the north bank of the Piikkiönlahti Bay. Because of the mild climate on the Baltic coast, which is protected by the offshore archipelago , there are many orchards in Piikkiö.
