The Pik (Maxim) Gorki ( English Gorkova or Gorkiy Peak ) is a mountain in Tian Shan in Kyrgyzstan .

location

The 6050  m high Pik Gorki is located in the Tengritoo ridge , which runs between the northern and southern Engiltschek glaciers. A mountain ridge leads in an easterly direction over the 5,940  m high Pik Abalakow and 6,371  m high Pik Tschapajew to the 6,995  m high Khan Tengri . The 5561  m high Pik Sovetskoj Kirgisii rises further to the west .

Origin of name

The mountain was named after the Russian writer Maxim Gorky .

Ascent history

Gorky Peak was first climbed in 1962. In 1972 a Kyrgyz climbing group led by V. Kotschetkow succeeded in climbing the south-southwest face for the first time.
