The Peak Rapassow (or Rapassowa ) is a mountain in the Chinese part of the Tian Shan not far from the border with Kyrgyzstan .
The 6814 m high Peak Rapassow lies in the meridional chain ( Meridianal'Nyj ). The Dschengisch Tschokusu ( Pik Pobeda ) rises 14 km to the west-southwest. In between is the 6,873 m high Voennyh Topografov peak at a distance of 3.84 km. The upper end of the southern Engiltschek glacier lies between the two mountains.
Origin of name
The name of the mountain refers to Pavel Nikolajewitsch Rapassow, who led a group of Soviet topographers who in 1943 determined the exact height of the then nameless Dschengisch Tschokusu and gave it the name Pik Podeda ( Russian for "victory summit").
Minor peaks
The Peak Rapassow has two secondary peaks: The south peak ( 6747 m ⊙ ) is 1.36 km south of the main peak. The west summit ( ⊙ ) has a height of about 6800 m and is 850 m west-northwest of the main summit.
