Pilar Orero

Maria Pilar Orero Clavero (born May 20, 1959 in Valencia ) is a Spanish translation scholar . She teaches at the Faculty of Translation and Interpreting at the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB) and is in charge of the distance learning Masters in Audiovisual Translation ( Máster Europeo en Traducción Audiovisual , METAV). She holds a PhD in Translation from the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology (UMIST). Her research interests include nonsense literature , audiovisual translation, and media accessibility .

Life

Pilar Orero was born in Valencia in 1959. Before starting her career as a translation scholar in the field of audiovisual translation, Orero graduated from the University of Valencia as a primary school teacher in 1980 . From 1989 to 1992 she studied Hispanic and Lusitan Studies at the University of Manchester and completed her Masters in Translation Studies at the Autonomous University of Barcelona in 1996 . Orero earned her Ph.D. from UMIST in 2003 with her work on translating nonsense literature.

Orero has since published several books and numerous articles. Today, in addition to her activities at the UAB, she is a member of numerous associations and research groups in the fields of audiovisual translation and accessibility, and also conducts research on media accessibility in several projects funded by the Spanish and Catalan governments. She also heads the TransMedia Catalonia research group.

Today Pilar Orero lives and works in Barcelona . She is married and has six children.
