The Pacific Investment Management Company, LLC ( PIMCO , PIMCO own spelling) is one of the alliance related investment company with headquarters in Newport Beach in the US state of California . It specializes in bonds and is now one of the largest companies in the segment with $ 1.87 trillion in assets.
Pimco is known for its Pimco Total Return , currently the largest bond fund in the world, and its former fund manager William Gross . In Germany, Pimco acts as investment advisor for Allianz Global Investors' pension funds .
history
Founded in Newport Beach in 1971, Pimco began as a subsidiary of life insurance and financial services company Pacific Life . Since 2000 Pimco has been a wholly owned subsidiary of Allianz Global Investors of America, which in turn is about 97% owned by Allianz and about 3% by Pacific Life.
In March 2011, the Pimco Total Return Fund , which manages almost $ 240 billion, announced that it had completely disposed of its holdings of US debt securities in February 2011 because it feared a massive decline in the value of US government bonds. In September 2014, Pimco announced that Bill Gross would be leaving the company with immediate effect. Gross worked for the asset manager Janus Capital from September 2014 .

In addition to its headquarters in Newport Beach, Pimco has branches in New York, Tokyo, Singapore, London, Sydney, Munich, Toronto and Hong Kong.
