Pinchas Cohen Gan (* 1942 in Meknes ) is a Moroccan - Israeli painter and installation artist .

life and work

Pinhas Cohen Gan was born in Morocco in 1942. His family emigrated to Israel in 1949. He studied at the Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design in Jerusalem from 1967 to 1970 , where he taught from 1971 to 1975. He studied for a year at the Central School of Art and Design in London and in 1973 received a Bachelor of Social Science and Art History from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem . He completed his studies with Meyer Schapiro (1904-1996) at Columbia University School of the Arts in New York in 1977 with a master's degree .

In the 1970s, Cohen Gan went public with the installations The Dead Sea Project and Touching the Border . At the same time, he was involved in the refugee camps in Jericho. In 1975 Cohen Gan devoted himself to drawing and painting. In addition to his own artistic activity, Cohen Gan has published texts on the theory of art . He lives and works in Tel Aviv .
