Pinewood Toronto Studios
Pinewood Toronto Studios is a large film studio in Toronto , in the Province of Ontario , Canada . It's located at 225 Commissioners Street in an industrial district just outside the city. The building owner or operator of the film studio will be the British company Pinewood Studioswhich already operates film studios in England, Malaysia and Germany. It is the first large film production studio in Toronto, with which larger cinema films can be produced, which in the past could not be made possible or only under difficult circumstances. During the conception, the studio was designed in such a way that five medium-format films or two larger-format films can be produced at the same time. In addition to offices, the area will have a total of nine production halls.
history
The site on which the studios are being built was a storage facility owned by the Imperial Oil company . The area for the studios is 4.5 hectares (approx. 45,000 m 2 ). Toronto hopes that the construction project will revitalize the industrial district by moving shops, hotels and restaurants to the neighborhood. The first construction phase of the project began in August 2006 and ended in 2008. The second construction phase included several large production halls, which were completed in 2010.
Studios
The nine production halls ( English stages ) of Pinewood Studios Toronto:
- Stage 1 has an area of 1,150 m 2 .
- Stage 2 & 3 have a production area of 1,394 m 2 .
- Stage 7 & 8 each have a production area of 1,672 m 2 .
- Stage 9 has an area of 929 m 2 .

Infrastructure and facilities
Right from the start, the studios were planned to protect the environment and resources as part of the Green Screen Initiative. In addition to the production halls, the studio also has a large workshop for building props, changing rooms, bars, cafes and several office spaces for the film producers as well as for studio management.
future
It is planned to drastically upgrade the area which is located in the adjacent areas around the studios. A hotel is to be built in the neighborhood next to coffee shops, restaurants and apartments. The aim is to set up a backdrop outside the studios but in the immediate vicinity, which should be used for future films. It is planned to build individual areas in the English, American (New York) and Chicago. Toronto hopes that this will improve the value of the former industrial area, in which several areas have been unused for years. For this reason, the city of Pinewood Studios endorses and supports them financially and with planning.
