history

A total of 104 episodes were produced from 1986, directed by Otmar Gutmann . The author of the first 104 TV episodes is Silvio Mazzola. Each episode lasted five minutes. Outstanding episodes have been released on several DVDs.

Pingu became internationally known primarily for its language, which was spoken in Grammelot . The speaker was Carlo Bonomi. In 1994, Pingu was awarded the Prix Walo among other international awards.

In 2004, the production company Hit Entertainment bought the broadcast rights to the series for Great Britain, including the 104 original episodes. In addition, 52 more episodes were produced. These episodes were filmed with the new speakers Marcello Magni and David Sant, as Bonomi was considered too old. In addition, a new Pingu DVD was released in 2004.

In September 2017 it was announced that the well-known penguin will be allowed to experience adventures in an anime version on Japanese television from October 2017. Pingu in the City will have 52 episodes, each around seven minutes long.

Based on the animated film series, a Pingu radio play series, now well-known in Switzerland, has been produced in Swiss German since the early 1990s . There were also picture books and numerous Pingu merchandising products . The first 104 episodes were shown in over 130 countries. In Germany, the series was first broadcast on November 10, 1990 by ZDF. Repeats followed later on the channels ORF 1 , SRF 1 , SRF Zwei and KiKA .
