Pinguicula vallisneriifolia is a carnivorous plant belonging to the genus of fatty herbs ( Pinguicula ).

description

The perennial plant forms a winter rosette towards winter and larger leaves again towards spring. Fleshy, light green, linear-lanceolate and upright leaves form a rosette with a diameter of up to 50 cm. On the surface, the leaves are sticky from the trapping secretions they use to catch small insects (e.g. sciarid gnats , ants ) and, as soon as prey is obtained, digested them by enzymes . Pinguicula vallisneriifolia blooms violet with a white throat spot in a single, zygomorphic , 2.5 to 4 cm large flower on a flower stem growing from the center of the rosette .

The number of chromosomes is 2n = 32.

distribution

The plant is endemic to southern Spain . It is a lithophyte that grows on soaked marl limestone in the cool penumbra on the vertical walls of ravines.
