Pinheiros slender rat ( Marmosops pinheiroi ) is a species of marsupial that occurs in northeastern South America from eastern Venezuela ( state of Bolívar ) through the three Guiana and Amapá regions to the coastal areas of Pará .

The animals reach a head trunk length of about 8.5 to 12.1 cm, have a 14.2 to 16 cm long tail and reach a weight of 19 to 33 g. The color of the fur on the back, the sides of the body and the head is light gray-brown. The hair on the back is 6 to 8 mm long. The ventral side is whitish or cream-colored. The transition from the gray-brown sides of the body to the lighter belly is gradual. There are dark circles around the eyes. The tops of the feet are light. The tail, which is about 150% of the length of the head, is dark on the top and light on the underside. Pinheiros slim-pouch rat has no pouch. The number of teats is seven or nine, three or four on each side and one in the middle.

Habitat and way of life

Pinheiros slim-pouch rat is nocturnal and occurs in primary lowland rainforests, in swamp forests and in secondary forests . Almost nothing is known about their further way of life, diet and reproduction. It lives both on the ground and in bushes up to heights of 1.5 meters above the ground.
