Piniphila bifasciana is a butterfly ( moth ) from the family of Winder (Tortricidae).

features

Piniphila bifasciana has a wingspan of 12 to 16 millimeters. The forewings have a pale ocher basic color. There is a dark spot at the base and a broad, dark transverse band halfway along the wing. In the sitting position, two upright tufts can be seen behind the head of the butterfly.

Piniphila bifasciana is native to the Palearctic . The species is found in much of Europe, including the British Isles .

Way of life

Pine forests form the typical habitat of Piniphila bifasciana . The butterflies fly in June and July. The crepuscular and nocturnal moths are often attracted by artificial light sources. The caterpillars' food plants are Scots pine ( Pinus sylvestris ) and Maritime pine ( Pinus pinaster ). The caterpillars usually stay in silky webs that they spin on young shoots and male flowers.
